BAMIGBETAN SEEKS MEDIA SUPPORT FOR REVENUE GROWTH
Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan has called for media support in the renewed State Government’s efforts aimed at increasing the Internally General Revenue (IGR).
The Commissioner who spoke today at an interactive session with members of the Lagos State Governor’s Office Correspondents noted that the urge to further enhance the pace of infrastructural development necessitated the need to increase the budget size of the State Government hence the support and cooperation of the media are crucial in this regard.
Bamigbetan informed that this year’s budget is aimed at addressing some of the infrastructural needs in the State hence the three recently signed laws i.e. Land Use Charge Law, the Consumption Charge Law and the Motor Vehicle Law are aimed at bringing more people into the tax dragnet.
The Commissioner pointed out that previous budgets in the State have been funded by loans with high interests, adding that the aim now is to expand the State Revenue drive.
While soliciting for the cooperation and support of the mass media in the renewed IGR campaign of the State, he averred that it is very unfair for somebody who buys a vehicle worth 70 million Naira to pay the same motor vehicle rates with a car owner worth One million Naira.
Bamigbetan noted that since his assumption of office, he has enjoyed the tremendous support of the mass media, assuring that his office is not only open to them but will continue to support them in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities to the society.
